What is Atussan?

Non-opioid antitussive drug with central effect.

What does Atussan contain and how does it work?

The active substance of the preprotein is butamate citrate. It is an antitussive that differs from opioid alkaloids in both chemical structure and pharmacological action. It is believed to have central effects, but the exact mechanism of action is unknown. The preparation has non-specific anticholinergic and bronchodilatory properties, which facilitates breathing. It does not cause habituation or addiction, has a wide therapeutic index (and therefore is well tolerated, also by children).

When to use Atussan?

The preparation is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of coughs of various origins.

When not to use this preparation?

Unfortunately, even if there are indications to use the preparation, it can not always be used. You can not use the preparation if you are allergic (you are hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients.

When should you exercise extreme caution when using Atussan?

Certain diseases and other circumstances may constitute a contraindication to use or indication to change the dosage of the preparation. In some situations it may be necessary to carry out specific check-ups.
The preparation inhibits the cough reflex. The use of expectorants in parallel should be avoided as this may lead to mucus in the airways, which increases the risk of bronchial spasm and respiratory tract infections.
If the cough persists for more than a few days, a doctor should be consulted.

The preparation contains maltitol; can be used by people with diabetes, people with hereditary fructose intolerance should not use it.
The glycerol contained in the preparation may cause headache, stomach upset and diarrhea.

The preparation may cause drowsiness in rare cases. Therefore, caution should be exercised when driving or other activities that require increased attention (eg handling machines).

Dosage of Atussan

The preparation is in the form of a syrup for oral use. Use the preparation as recommended. Do not exceed the recommended doses because it will not increase the effectiveness of the drug and may harm your health and life. If you have any doubts regarding the use of the preparation, consult a physician.
Usually syrup is applied 3 times a day.
3.-6. age. 5 ml (7.5 mg)
6.-12. age. 10 ml (15 mg)
after 12 years, 15 ml (22.5 mg).
15 ml (22.5 mg) 4 times a day.

Can Atussan be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?

During pregnancy, do not use any medicine without consulting your doctor!
It is very important that before using any medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult a physician and explain beyond any doubt the potential risks and benefits associated with the use of the drug. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before using the product.
The preparation should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy.
The use of the preparation in women in the second and third trimester of pregnancy or during breastfeeding only after consultation with the doctor and only on its explicit recommendation.

Can I use other preparations in parallel?

What side effects can occur?
