What does Aflavic contain and how does it work?

The active substance is diosmin. Diosmin is included in the group of flavone compounds (its molecule consists of disaccharide and diosquelin, a naturally occurring flavonoid derivative). Diosmin has a protective effect on venous vessels (stronger than Troxerutin ). It reduces the permeability of venous walls, has anti-oedematous and anti-inflammatory effects. It improves the elasticity and condition of the tension of venous walls, reduces venous stasis in the lower limbs. Anti-inflammatory activity is demonstrated by inhibiting the adhesion and activation of leukocytes, which limits the action of inflammatory mediators (prostaglandins, histamines, free radicals). Diosmin also inhibits hyaluronidase activity. Increases lymph flow in the lymphatic system. Following oral administration, diosmin is metabolised in the intestines by the bacterial flora and its active metabolite (which is diosketin) is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. It is used primarily in the case of chronic venous insufficiency.
