What is Arilin rapid?
An anti-infective drug from imidazole derivatives used locally (vaginally) in the treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections. Anti-infective drug from the group of imidazole derivatives applied topically (vaginally) in the treatment of bacterial and protozoal infections.
What does Arilin rapid contain and how does it work?
The active substance is Metronidazole
, a chemotherapeutic agent from the group of imidazole derivatives with a bactericidal and protocidal effect. The action of metronidazole leads to damage to the nucleic acid of the microorganism DNA, resulting in cell death. Metronidazole is effective against many strains of anaerobic bacteria. It is not active against aerobic bacteria. The product is intended for topical use, vaginally. After vaginal application about 20% of metronidazole dose is absorbed and penetrates into tissues and organs as well as body fluids.
When should I use Arilin rapid?
The preparation is indicated for topical treatment of trichomoniasis and non-specific bacterial vaginal infection.
When not to use this preparation?
Unfortunately, even if there are indications to use the preparation, it can not always be used. You must not use the product if you are allergic (you are hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients or other nitroimidazole derivatives, except for life-threatening infections or when other medicines are not effective.
Contraindication is contraindicated in women during the first trimester of pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
Take special care with Arilin rapid?
Certain diseases and other circumstances may constitute a contraindication to use or indication to change the dosage of the preparation. In some situations it may be necessary to carry out specific check-ups.
Caution should be exercised if the preparation is used in people:
· With active disease of the central nervous system (eg in patients with epilepsy)
· With severe hepatic impairment or hepatic encephalopathy
· With incorrect blood composition (especially in the case of leukopenia).
If you have any of the above conditions, consult a physician before using the preparation.
Metronidazole should not be used for more than 10 days (unless in exceptional circumstances the doctor recommends otherwise).
If neurological disorders occur during the period of application (eg numbness or tingling of the limbs, seizures), a doctor should be consulted immediately; the doctor will decide if it is possible to continue the preparation.
Metabid control of blood is recommended during long-term use of metronidazole.
You should not drink alcohol during the use of metronidazole and for at least 48 hours after its use.

Can Arilin rapid be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
During pregnancy, do not use any medicine without consulting your doctor!
It is very important that before using any medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult a physician and explain beyond any doubt the potential risks and benefits associated with the use of the drug. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, please inform the doctor prescribing the prescription for this medicine.
The preparation is contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy (if a woman could become pregnant, it is recommended to perform a pregnancy test before starting the preparation and / or a medical consultation). Tell your doctor about all medicines you have recently taken, including those that are over the counter.
Metronidazole enhances the toxic effects of alcohol. Alcohol intake during treatment may lead to side effects such as: feeling hot, profuse sweating, headache, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain. You should not drink alcohol during the use of metronidazole (including vaginal use) and at least 48 hours after its use.
Tell your doctor if you are using anticoagulants from the group of coumarin derivatives. Metronidazole may increase the effect of anticoagulants (eg Warfarin
, acenocoumarol) and may prolong the prothrombin time. It may be necessary for the doctor to adjust the dosage of anticoagulants. Particular attention should be paid to blood coagulation parameters.
Metronidazole may increase the concentration of lithium used in parallel and exacerbate its toxic effects. If concomitant use of metronidazole and lithium is necessary, the concentration of lithium and creatinine in the blood should be monitored.
Drugs that increase the activity of liver microsomal enzymes (eg phenytoin, phenobarbital) may cause a decrease in blood metronidazole, while drugs that reduce the activity of microsomal enzymes (eg cimetidine) may increase metronidazole in the blood and prolong its Biol
Parallel use of metronidazole and disulfiram may cause acute psychosis and disorientation. Metronidazole may be started no earlier than 2 weeks after discontinuation of disulfiram.
The preparation may affect the results of the liver enzymes AST, ALT.
What side effects can occur?
Like all medicines, Arilin rapid can also cause side effects, although it will not occur in all patients who use this medicine. Remember that the expected benefits of using the drug are usually greater than the damage resulting from the occurrence of side effects.
Side effects are rare. However, side effects associated with metronidazole (generally taken orally, intravenously, rectally) such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, flatulence, metallic taste in the mouth, oral mucositis, aches and dizziness can not be ruled out. headache, peripheral neuropathies (numbness, tingling, paraesthesia, paresis), seizures, confusion, depression, sleep disorders (drowsiness, insomnia), coordination disorders, tinnitus, weakness, visual disturbances, haematological disorders (decrease in leucocytes, granulocytes, thrombocytopenia) , sporadically agranulocytosis), drug-induced fever, darker urine, urinary incontinence, painful urination, increased urine volume, liver dysfunction, sporadic pancreatitis, candidiasis (candidiasis) in the genital area, pseudomembranous inflammation in isolated cases t (including using metronidazole in the form of globules).Possible skin changes, rash, pruritus, hypersensitivity reactions (urticaria, pruritus, angioneurotic edema
, erythema multiforme, Anaphylactic reactions
, including life-threatening anaphylactic shock).
