What is Ascorgem?

The preparation is used in conditions of increased demand for vitamin C or its deficiency.

What does it contain and how does Ascorg work?

The product contains vitamin C (ascorbic acid). Vitamin C is indispensable in many metabolic processes, participates in oxidation and reduction processes, is an antioxidant (it has antioxidant properties, protects against the action of free radicals), takes, among others participation in the biosynthesis of collagen, folic acid, adrenocortical hormones, steroid hormones, insulin , influences the metabolism of thyroxine, facilitates the absorption of iron. Stimulates immune processes, in the course of colds and flu there is an increased demand for vitamin C. Deficiency of vitamin C (eg after a few months of diet with insufficient vitamin C content) results in abnormal connective tissue function, synthesis disorders and metabolism of many Biol ogical molecules, general weakness, pain muscles and joints, delayed healing of wounds, bleeding from the gums and from the nose, inflammation of the gums, development of scurvy. The normal concentration of Ascorbic acid in the plasma is about 10 mg / l, in people with hypovitaminosis symptoms it is lower than 6 mg / l, and in people with clinical symptoms of scorching less than 2 mg / l. After oral administration, ascorbic acid is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract in a dose-dependent amount (up to 200 mg daily is absorbed up to 90%, for a dose of 1 g per day, about 50%). After a single dose of 500 mg, the maximum concentration in the blood occurs after 2-3 hours.

When should I use Ascorg?

The preparation is indicated in conditions of vitamin C deficiency (eg inflammation of mucous membranes, scurvy), when a low vitamin C diet is used, in artificially fed infants, in conditions of increased demand for vitamin C (eg colds, recurrent respiratory tract infections, reduced immunity during convalescence).

Can I use other preparations in parallel?

Tell your doctor about all medicines you have recently taken, including those that are over the counter.
When used in large doses, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) causes acidification of the urine, which may reduce the excretion of acidic drugs and increase the excretion of alkaline drugs (eg tricyclic antidepressants). Vitamin C can affect the action of anticoagulants (such as Warfarin ), increase iron absorption, increase the duration of action of Paracetamol , reduce the excretion of Acetylsalicylic acid . The use of vitamin C with sulfonamides may cause the precipitation of sulfonamide crystals in the urine. Vitamin C can increase the blood levels of estrogens used in parallel. Vitamin C and flavonoids mutually reinforce their effects. High doses of acetylsalicylic acid reduce plasma vitamin C levels. Ascorbic acid (in doses greater than 2 g per day) increases the absorption of aluminum; this should be remembered especially in people with renal insufficiency and in the simultaneous use of antacids containing aluminum. Vitamin C can also affect the results of some laboratory tests (eg for determination of urinary glucose, faecal occult blood, levels of ethy estradiol, creatinine, inorganic phosphates, liver enzymes, urine pH). Before carrying out laboratory tests, please inform your doctor that you are taking the product.

What side effects can occur?

Like all medicines, Ascorg may also cause side effects, although they will not occur in all patients who use this medicine. Remember that the expected benefits of using the drug are usually greater than the damage resulting from the occurrence of side effects.
The preparation is usually well tolerated. If long-term high doses of vitamin C (greater than 1g per day) are used, nausea, vomiting, indigestion / heartburn, diarrhea, acidification of urine and crystallization of oxalate and urate in the urinary tract (formation of urinary stones) may occur. In people with blood glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, ascorbic acid may cause haemolysis of red blood cells and haemolytic anemia. Long-term use of vitamin C in high doses may increase its metabolism and if you return to smaller doses or stop using it, you may develop symptoms of scurvy.
