What is Cusicrom?

Topical application to the eye (conjunctival sac) with antiallergic activity.

What does Cusicrom contain and how does it work?

The active substance is sodium cromoglycate, a substance with antiallergic activity. Sodium cromoglycate, by stabilizing mast cell membranes, inhibits the formation of allergic reactions in response to allergens. It inhibits the degranulation of mast cells, i.e. prevents the release of substances that mediate allergic reactions, such as histamine and leukotrienes. The mechanism of action of sodium cromoglycate probably consists in blocking Calcium channels associated with immunoglobulin E receptors, which inhibits the influx of calcium ions into the cell and the release of mediators. Sodium cromoglycate, administered in the form of eye drops, reduces the symptoms of acute and chronic allergic conjunctivitis, such as swelling and itching of the mucous membranes. After topical application to the conjunctival sac, the sodium cromoglycate can be minimally absorbed systemically and practically does not cause systemic side effects.
