The preparation contains 2 active ingredients: aluminum hydroxide and Magnesium hydroxide. These substances react with hydrochloric acid contained in the gastric juice, which results in the neutralization of gastric acid reaction (increases the pH of gastric juice). This limits the damaging effects of gastric juice on the mucosa of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. In addition, the aluminum contained in the preparation can bind to pepsin (one of the digestive enzymes) and bile acids, which has a beneficial effect in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease.
The preparation is indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:
• hyperacidity of gastric juice
• inflammation of the mucous membranes of the esophagus and stomach
• heartburn, indigestion
• reflux oesophagitis and oesophageal hernia
• helpful in peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum.
Unfortunately, even if there are indications to use the preparation, it can not always be used. You can not use the preparation if you are allergic (you are hypersensitive) to any of the ingredients. You can not use the product if you have severe kidney failure.
Certain diseases and other circumstances may constitute a contraindication to use or indication to change the dosage of the preparation. In some situations it may be necessary to carry out specific check-ups. Therefore, before using the preparation you should consult a doctor if you suspect or diagnose kidney problems. Special care should be taken in people:
• with renal insufficiency (accumulation of magnesium and aluminum ions may occur)
• in people undergoing hemodialysis (accumulation of magnesium and aluminum ions may occur and long-term use of the preparation may cause or intensify the process of bone softening, the so-called osteomalacia and increase the risk of encephalopathy)
• in children under 6 years of age (especially dehydrated or with kidney failure).
The preparation may cause kidney failure due to the accumulation of magnesium-ammonium phosphate. The preparation should not be used for more than 4 weeks.
Additional information about the other ingredients of the preparation:
- the preparation contains sorbitol; people with inherited disorders associated with fructose intolerance should not use the preparation
- Suspension preparation contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate and therefore may cause allergic reactions (exceptionally bronchospasm). Do not use long-term.
Does this preparation affect the ability to drive vehicles?
The preparation does not affect the ability to drive and use machines / machines.
The preparation is in the form of tablets or suspensions. It is intended for oral use.The tablets should be cracked or broken. The suspension should be shaken before use. Do not exceed the recommended doses because it will not increase the effectiveness of the drug and may harm your health and life. If you have any doubts regarding the use of the preparation, consult a physician.
Usually 2 tablets or 1 tablespoon of the suspension 3 times a day, 1.5 hours after each basic meal and at bedtime. Do not take more than 12 tablets a day or 6 tablespoons a day.
During pregnancy, do not use any medicine without consulting your doctor!

Tell your doctor about all medicines you have recently taken, including those that are over the counter
The preparation reduces the absorption of Tetracycline antibiotics (eg Doxycycline ) or fluoroquinolones (eg Ciprofloxacin , Norfloxacin ), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, iron preparations, anti-rheumatic drugs. These drugs should be taken 2 hours (and in the case of fluoroquinolones over 4 hours) before or 1 hour after taking the preparation.
Like all medicines, Alumag can cause side effects, although they will not occur in all patients who use this medicine. Remember that the expected benefits of using the drug are usually greater than the damage resulting from the occurrence of side effects.
The following may occur: constipation and diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bright stools. Long-term use of the product in high doses may lead to renal failure, osteomalacia or encephalopathy (brain dysfunction).
