Antibiotic from the group of macrolides, applied topically in the treatment of acne vulgaris.
The active substance is Erythromycin , an antibiotic from the macrolide group, produced by the strainSaccharopolyspora erythraea(formerlyStreptomyces erythraeus). The mechanism of action of erythromycin, common for the whole group of macrolides, consists in inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial proteins. This is done by blocking bacterial ribosomes, cell structures necessary for protein synthesis. This prevents growth and multiplication of bacterial cells. Erythromycin is classified as a bacteriostatic substance, it is effective against many species of microorganisms. When applied topically, it is minimally absorbed and its systemic effect is negligible.
The product is indicated for the local treatment of acne vulgaris, especially inflammatory and with the presence of papules and pustules.
